SPEAKING - GENERAL & ACADEMIC

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an international standardized test to evaluate English proficiency of non-native speakers. This language assessment tests four skills: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. The students get scores between 0-9 bands. It is offered in two forms: IELTS-Academic, IELTS-General. The former one is for students aspiring to take admission in universities of English-speaking countries and is widely accepted test across certain universities of the world such as in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and many more. This is also a requirement to join certain professions in these countries such as medical profession (doctors, pharmacist and lab technicians). The latter one, however, is for migration and work purposes.

Speaking: Same in both the tests

This module is on to one conversation between the examiner and the candidate and is conducted for about 15-20 minutes. It has three parts.

Part-1 is the introduction where they ask questions about yourself such as name, hometown, hobbies, work or study and about a range of familiar topics like music, shopping, traffic, food, leisure time and many more.

Part-2 is Cue card where you are given a topic along with the points which you need to include in your talk. The topic is generally related to your experiences, aspirations in daily life. The student is given 1 minute with a pen and paper to prepare their talk after which they are expected to talk for about two minutes. The examiner may stop you before two minutes sometimes.

Part-3 is discussion part where examiner asks questions generally related to the topic of cue card. Here the candidate is expected to give detailed explanation for their answers.
